According to classical writers, the Celts wore torcs in battle. Both neck and arm torcs have been discovered in Britain and Europe and are thought to have marked a person of high status, such as a warrior or leader. The Celts used knotwork to decorate many of their artifacts. For them, the intricate patterns, woven into spirals and knots, symbolized the continuity of life.
